It’s every animal or nature lover’s summer dream job, but an internship at the Kirchner Wildlife Assistance and Rehabilitation Center is no mere walk in the park. On average, less than fifty out of more than five thousand applicants are accepted at KWARC each year. Applicants are never accepted or turned away based on financial status, but those who are accepted are usually those who have shown a dedicated interest in pursuing a career as either veterinarians, naturalists, or other related occupations. Once you’re accepted, though, you’ve earned an invitation to return to Kirchner at any time, any summer.
It’s not all the hype of Animal Planet, though. Actual life at KWARC is a mixture of intense learning, hard work, and long hours. The animals who are brought here are usually injured or ill, so the emotional strain is no small matter for the devoted humans who work with them either. For those who have learned to love the place, though, it is a home away from home, a tightly bound community of friends (and rivals), those who share the same interests and goals.
While challenging, work at KWARC can be highly rewarding, You’ll be saving and bettering lives, so if you think you’re up for it, go ahead and apply for a summer internship or even a permanent employee position! |
